The Cyber Essentials scheme has been developed as part of the UK’s National Cyber Security Programme. Cyber Essentials became a mandatory requirement for all central government contracts advertised after 1 October 2014.
To attain Cyber Essentials MDS were required to identify the enterprise IT systems it believed are at risk from Internet based threat factors and then complete a self-assessment questionnaire which was independently verified by a CREST accredited 3rd Party assessing body.
The scope of the assessment concentrated on: Boundary firewalls and internet gateways, Secure configuration, Access control, Malware protection, and Patch management .
MDS successfully received the Cyber Essentials Certification at its first attempt with no vulnerabilities being identified from the scan and no additional information being required to validate the self-assessment.
